vices Register, not only within the gas and electricity industries and by 2020, the water industry too. We recognise within Cadent that there is still more work to be done but building on our successes/achievements and by listen- ing to our customers and stakeholders, we can deliver a gas network for our customers today and into the future. Melanie Taylor, head of futures stakeholder relations, Northern Gas Networks We have a close, candid relationship with our stakeholders in the North of England and some fantastic, long-term partnerships which allow us to deliver far more than we could in isolation. Ofgem's stakeholder assessment process is always challenging, but very valuable. It's an opportunity to see how we shape up nationally, and gain an insight into the regulator's expectations. We were pleased with our progress in 2017/18, especially in the enhancements we've made to customer service, our focus on efficiency and the work we've done to support struggling com- munities. We're already shaping our business plan for the next regulatory period, so effective stakeholder engagement has never been more important. We want stakeholders and customers to help shape the plan, to ensure it reflects the region's priorities and delivers great value for money as well as helping to secure a sustainable, affordable energy future for everyone. Ivo Spreeuwenberg, regulatory strategy manager, National Grid At National Grid we're passionate about en- gaging with our stakeholders and acting on insights to better deliver for them. Embed- ding this approach leads to better outcomes for both stakeholders and our business, es- pecially at a time when the energy industry is changing at an unprecedented pace and energy bills are under such scrutiny. This clear rationale is why we were proac- tive in shaping the 'Enhanced Engagement' approach for RIIO2 and are pushing ahead, at pace, with our independently chaired stake- holder group. As the first network company to establish our group we have already benefited from the group's input over the first two meet- ings. Part of our passion for engagement is recognising we can always get better, and our stakeholder group weren't lacking in ideas for improvement. As a result of their challenge and review, we are making significant changes to our approach that will better align our business to deliver for stakeholders over the remainder of the RIIO1 period and into RIIO2. The stakeholder focus in the RIIO framework has undoubtedly led to networks upping their game. It's exciting to think of all the opportunities that remain, especially when you look at what industries outside energy are achieving.
