Castflow valves is a valve manufacturer specialized in check valves. Manufacturing range: ball check, dual plate, silent check valve (nozzle check and axial check) and footvalves. Our range of manufacturing covers DN25 (1") to DN1400 (56") and other sizes on demand Ratings PN10/16/25/40/64/ ANSI150/300/600# wafer/flanged style. Valves can be casted in different materials: iron, Steel, Stainless, Superduplex and other special exotic alloys. Our company has been a reference in many of the most important desalination projects globally. Also we are main suppliers of important equipment builders that rely since many years on our professional collaboration and quality. The proper selection of the non-return check valves for pumping systems is very important and some elements are to be considered for selection. For smaller pumping systems these elements are less significant, however in bigger systems these elements can have an important impact on the total energy consumption. "One advantage of plastic pipes is their corrosion resistance, because corrosive seawater is transported in many areas of a desalination plant. Generally, PE pipes show higher corrosion resistance against salt-water solutions – particularly compared to steel pipes, even if those steel pipes are classi• ed anti-corrosive," says Simona business development manager water treatment, Daniel Gebhardt. The reason why plastic can be so e• ective at reducing corrosion results from the smoothness of the surfaces it achieves, which reduces the incidence of scaling and bio- fouling inside the pipes. Heat exchanger tubes Technoform, the German plas- tics • rm, has been developing heat exchanger pipes based on the plastic extrusion technol- ogy that it originally developed for building industry applica- tions, and is now bringing to thermal desalination. Johannes Caprano, spokesman on heat exchange solutions, explains: "We succeeded in developing a plastic compound that has a very high • ller content, so it is • lled with graphite which is a very good heat conductor. That enables us to make tubes which conduct heat on a similar level to stainless steel, while having no substances that are prone to corrosion." The new products are currently being tested in real operating conditions with various desalination industry partners. One project involved delivering an entire multi-e• ect distillation stage in plastic. "That is running quite nicely in the • eld," says Caprano. "In some projects they are replacing individual tubes, and in others, entire bundles. We haven't made our market entry yet in desalination, but we are very advanced in some of the pilot testing. The market is relatively conservative and wants to ensure that new technology is well-tested." The other big bene• ts of plastic pipes include their ability to withstand the chemicals used in desalination, such as sulfuric acid; as well as their lighter weight compared to metals, resulting in cheaper transportation costs; their relative Š exibility; and the lower cost of the material compared to steel in general. "It's clear that plastics are becoming more important in the • eld of desalination. Many steel pipes and • ttings, especially super duplex steel, are being replaced by plastic," says Gebhardt. As the trend towards plastics develops, those incremental gains are continuing to stack up. Plastics are now used throughout desalination systems, from pipes, fi ttings and valves, to water tanks and basin linings
