8 | SMART WATER NETWORKS 2018 T he DERAGGER+ anti- ragging device provides a smart solution to the age-old problem of waste water pump blockages. The DERAGGER+ has a unique technology that monitors in real-time the power wave form of the pump. This wave form analysis allows the device to immediately detect the instant a single wet-wipe starts to impede an impeller, whereby the DERAGGER+ slows the pump to a stop, briefly reverses it to dislodge the impediment and it passes through the system in suspended flow. The DERAGGER+ is proven to eliminate blockages, and deliver energy savings across almost all pumps. Although not all pumps may block severely enough to cause the pump to trip, the majority will suffer from some form of impediment due to ragging. A recent case study at Anglian Water has demon- strated the technology, and a new independent study was recently released by WRc, anaylsing raw data from United Utilities and Wessex Water. Full versions of both studies are available from: www.clearwatercontrols.co.uk. Across an entire waste water network: With the growing need for Utility companies to create smart networks, and their focus on performance and resilience, the DERAGGER technology is now being used to deliver full network efficiency. Devel- oped in collaboration with Jacobs, AquaDNA offers real-time cloud based intelligent efficiency across a full waste water network. Data is collected in real-time from waste water pumps fitted with a DERAGGER+, allowing the operating efficiency and health of the pumps (and station) to be ascertained on a "live" basis. The data is displayed in a simple graphic dashboard form advising operators on the risk of spillage at any station, the likelihood of pump failure and advising of when proactive maintenance tasks should be carried out. The real-time data is also used to predict and prevent any ragging type blockages from occurring. Currently undergoing live network trials, the UK launch is expected in Autumn 2018.
