The UK's first energy-positive office,
which generates more solar energy
than it consumes, opened last month
at Swansea University.
Designed by Specific, Active Office
combines a range of technologies that
enable it to generate, store and release
solar energy through one integrated
system. There is a solar photovoltaic
roof, a solar heat store and a smart
building network infrastructure that
also distributes DC power for systems
such as smart lighting.
Electric vehicle charging points
will be linked to the system.
It is the second in a series of
energy-generating buildings – the
first was the Active Classroom, which
was designed and built by the same
company last year.
